We went to Sacramento's Discovery Museum for the first time this afternoon. Don't know why we hadn't gone before! It was fantastic and perfect for my two little ones. Lots of hands-on activities and exhibits right at their eye-level. We didn't have a chance to go to the planetarium show or the live animal show (both free with admission) because we had to keep a 2pm appointment, but we definitely will be back for both. If you are a Sacramento local, I would highly recommend bringing your kids here. In addition to the exhibits and shows, it looks like every weekend they also have some sort of fun arts & crafts activity for the kids. We're considering become members, we liked it so much!
