It's currently 104 degrees out - such a scorcher! The pool is looking mighty inviting. But rather than spend the entire day in the pool, I decided to take the kids to Stockton to explore the Children's Museum. I have heard good things from various friends but had never taken the kids there. It was so worth it!
First, we made a pit stop at a Sacramento institution - Marie's Donuts. The kids each had a doughnut with chocolate glaze and sprinkles and I stuck with my favorite glazed yeast doughnut. So yummy. A perfect way to start off our adventure.
Then we took the 45 minute drive down to Stockton, talking about the cows, hay, and sloughs we saw along the way.
The Stockton's Children Museum was easy to find. Parking was free. We spent two-and-a-half hours there, exploring, exploring, exploring.
The kids especially loved the real service vehicles (firetruck, police car & motorcycle, ambulance, city bus) that they could drive and explore. They also loved the mock grocery store - they each went "shopping" and then rang up their purchases at the cashier's check out. (From a momma's perspective, it was interesting to see the store was stocked with items that we never buy... I guess my family is not "mainstream" that way. Eli and Vivian are under the false impression that everyone buys their groceries from the farmer's market and Trader Joe's!)
This was a great day trip from Sacramento and the kids are already asking for a return visit!
